Pre-Authorization – Updating Benefits

< Back

When a pre-authorization is received back from the insurance company, it is important to update the estimated insurance amounts and to stop tracking the pre-estimate on the Past Due Pre-Authorization report in the To Do List.

Updating the estimated insurance will update the insurance plan for this patient and for every patient who has the same insurance plan. By doing this you will be able to depend on the amount that is shown as an insurance estimate on the patient Transaction screens.

  • Go to the patient’s Transaction screen.
  • Update the insurance estimated amounts for each line of treatment to match the figures you received back from the insurance company.
  • Enter the date that the pre-authorization was received in the Acc.Date column on the pre-authorization claim line. This will stop the tracking of this pre-authorization on the Past Due Pre-Authorization report in the To Do List.

Tip: You may also want to enter additional information in patient Notes for easy reference! Notes can be accessed under Documents on the menu bar in the patient Transaction screen or by clicking on the Notes icon.
